I Go Red for many reasons, among them is that I believe in research, and that science can change, improve and lengthen lives for everyone. The American Heart Association is working relentlessly to change the fact that even as the number 1 killer of women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women, we have only been required to be included in heart disease research since 2012.

Prior to Go Red for Women, only 30% of women knew that heart disease was their greatest health threat, claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined.  We can make a difference by engaging the business community and leaders in this important cause. The Go Red for Women movement has made tremendous strides in the fight against heart disease and stroke in women. However, we still have a long way to go when it comes to awareness and research for women’s heart health.

Now more than ever, the American Heart Association is a powerful force for health and well-being. When you give to the American Heart Association you are making a dramatic impact in the fight against heart disease and stroke—our No. 1 and No. 2 global killers. We know that 80 percent of heart disease is preventable. With the bright minds at the forefront of American Heart Association-funded research, a cure could be just around the corner.

I am so grateful for your support of Go Red for Women and the American Heart Association—together we will help to empower women and educate our communities on the importance of being an active advocate and participant in bettering heart health for all.

Thank you,

Shantha
